Approaching Silence is a design approach addressing noise pollution. The solution provides a means to create an acoustic profile of a given environment and the ability to play sounds that will mask the baseline auditory pollution. Ideally, this will provide a sense of tranquility, contemplation and historical reference for the participants.
Approaching silence addresses documented concerns regarding the diminishing health (coronaryhypertension, hearing loss, etc.) and psychological well-being of contemporary environments. This solution looks to mitigate these concerns by providing an alternative public response to the invasive sound pollution and increased individual isolation.
